NATIONAL IN TORONTO
CONGRATULATIONS !

My first round already was a tough match. 6 4, 7 6 in 2.5 hours in hot and humid conditions against a strong opponent even though he was not seeded and I was seeded 3 rd.

Next round I won a bit easier and made it the semi final where I met the Nr 1 seed Karl Hale who is also running the Rogers Cup event.

I lost after 2 hours and a hard fight 6 4 and 7 6.

For the third place I beat Max Brown, nr 2 seed , after 4 hours 6 7, 7 6,7 5 and qualified for the Canadian Team again.

World Championship in Feb in San Diego.

April 2011 - Tennis Tournament News

Joachim Nierfeld, Head Tennis Pro

A lot has happened in last few previous months.

Michael Bitcon , one of our most promising up and coming juniors , did qualify to go to the Indoor Nationals in Montreal after showing great

results in tournaments in Vancouver and Washington State. Unfortunately

he couldn't go on the trip due to previously made family travelling plans. We can only encourage all tennis members to look out for our strong juniors at our club and maybe even joining them for a hit once in a while.

On the " senior " front we have a few of our members competing currently. Dineka Vandeburgt has been top in her age group and is always close to qualify for Team Canada. This week she is competing at the ITF event at Vancouver Lawn and is successfully playing in doubles. Also at the event was David Burgess, who almost upset the number 2 seed Doug Holman. David also competed last week in Edmonton at the Western Indoor Nationals and also was close to upset a seeded player in the first Round. He ended up being runner up in the doubles at his age group.

Also competing has been our Club Pro Joachim Nierfeld. After returning from New Zealand where he was supposed to represent Canada at the World Championships for Teams....he won the Indoor Nationals last week in Edmonton and almost surprised the later on Winners at the over 40's doubles with his partner Tom Budd.

Last week Joachim was playing at the ITF Tourney at Vancouver Lawn Masters

					last weekend in singles and doubles with his partner Stephen Kimoff from Vancouver.  

In his final he was already down a set and down a match point when he came back and won after 3 hours 7 to 5 in the 3 rd set.

Gold Medal Squat 160 kgs Bench press 97.5, Deadlift 140 kgs

Kim has earned a spot on Team Canada Master's World Championships being held at the end of Sept 2011.

April 2011 - Junior Racquet Ball

The KSS/Kelowna Junior Racquetball Team competed in the BC Junior Provincial Championships held in Burnaby this past weekend.

The team was made of up 6 KSS students - Sam Thompson;Tanner Soetaert; Kenneth Gauthier; Stefanie Duran; Teghan Braun; Justin McLean and two middle schools students (Cody Broten from Dr. Knox and Trevor Jones from CNB)

The students showed a wonderful attitude and represented KSS and SD 23 in a wonderful way. (Each one of our team members won at least one medal in the tournament.)

We came away with:

1 Gold medal -

Intermediate 1 Doubles (Steffanie Duran partnered with student from Vancouver)

2 Silver Medals -

Intermediate 1 Doubles (Trevor Jones/Cody Broten)

Girls under 18 - Stefanie Duran

2 Bronze Medals -

Intermediate 2 Doubles (Justin McLean partnered with student from Vancouver)

Junior Singles intermediate - Trevor Jones.

4 4th place medals -

Sam Thompson - Junior Boys Advanced singles;

SamThompson/Tanner Soertaert - Junior Doubles Advanced
